Ms. Beldy up in here!

A copywriter and a math teacher. These roles might seem like a forced connection, but they are the driving force behind who I am, what I want to do, and why I want to do it.

As a writer, I am also quick with my comebacks, which helps me keep my kids in check. As they say, “Ms. Beldy’s got the jokes.” They are a joy and such a big part of my life, so here’s a small sneak peak into Ms. Beldy’s classroom.

“Ms. Beldy, can we make a TikTok?”

No, but sometimes, yes (emphasis on sometimes). As a Teach For America Corps Member, I have been able to continue my work as a Communications Intern by collaborating with the Social Team as a Content Creator, which is as fun as it sounds when it’s with a bunch of kids who know the words to “Water” by Tyla before they fully understand the elements in H2O. Here’s a peek at some of the work I have produced with the support of the Teach For America national social media team.

What Ms. Beldy and Her Second Graders Are Saying

“In what world are we doing that right now?”

“In my world.”

— Ms. Beldy and A’Laura

“Mom?”

“Oops, I meant to say Ms. Beldy!”

— Kabella and all my kids pretty much daily.

“What time is it?”

“Time for you to get a watch, hahaha!”

“That is still not funny.”

— Ms. Beldy and Donnell

“Feelings are valid, disrespect is not.”

“Can I go to the calm-down corner?”

— A routine conversation with my kids that is a hard one to have even as an adult.

It is hard to refrain from giving an explanation as a writer.

But yes, this is exactly what you think it is.

Want to know what I have been up to these past two years?

I’ll let this vibe speak for itself.

The student becomes the teacher, then the teacher becomes the student — something like that.

While working as a Teach For America educator, I graduated with my Master of Science in Education (MSED) - Educational Studies and my Graduate Certificate in Urban Education. Through this work, I dove deeper into understanding the current systems perpetuating inequity in education and various sectors in the United States. With this understanding, I will continue to advocate as an anti-racist leader to create more equitable systems and amplify voices that deserve to be heard through writing and creating.

I also tied a lot of shoelaces — the duality of Ms. Beldy.
